Boat propellers and running gear at the waterline

Underwater Hull Cleaning · Pinellas County

A clean hull is free speed.

Drag is the most expensive thing on your boat — and the easiest to remove. We clean hulls in the water, at your dock, and send you photo and video proof of every dive. No haul-out, no yard bill, no guessing what's down there.

Why it pays

A clean hull pays you back — on every trip.

In warm Gulf water, growth returns fast. Staying ahead of it isn't maintenance for its own sake — it's the cheapest performance you can buy.

i.

Lower fuel burn

Even a thin film of slime adds drag. A clean hull moves the same throttle farther on less fuel — the savings show up on every outing.

ii.

Speed & handling restored

Barnacles and growth quietly rob RPMs and top-end. Clean running surfaces give your numbers back.

iii.

Bottom paint protected

Hard growth that's left to set in tears at antifouling when it's finally removed. A steady, gentle cadence lets the paint last its full life.

iv.

Running gear defended

Props, shafts, and struts stay clean and balanced, and your anodes get checked while we're down there.

What it is

What an underwater hull cleaning actually involves.

Underwater hull cleaning is exactly what it sounds like — your boat's bottom is cleaned while it stays in the water, by a diver, at your slip. There's no haul-out, no travel lift, and no yard bill. For most boats kept in Pinellas County, it's the difference between a hull that performs like new and one that's quietly dragging an extra coat of marine life everywhere it goes.

The growth comes in stages. First a slime layer — thin, slick, and building within days in warm water. Then soft growth: grass and early weed. Left longer, it hardens into barnacles and calcareous tube worms that bite into the paint. The longer the gap between cleanings, the more aggressive the removal has to be — which is why a steady, gentle cadence protects your bottom paint far better than waiting until the hull is fully fouled.

And every dive is documented. You get before-and-after photo or video plus a short condition note on your running gear, anodes, and paint — so you're never taking anyone's word for what's happening below your waterline.

One standard — nothing left to chance below the line.

Full hull — soft & hard growth

The entire wetted surface, bow to transom, including the boot stripe and waterline.

Running gear

Propellers, shafts, and struts cleaned and checked for growth and balance.

Rudders & trim tabs

Control surfaces cleaned so they move and bite the way they should.

Thru-hulls & intakes

Raw-water intakes and thru-hull fittings cleared so cooling and systems flow freely.

Zinc anode inspection

Anodes checked on every visit and replaced only when they're genuinely depleted.

Bottom paint, handled gently

Growth removed with the least aggressive method that works — to preserve your antifouling.

Hull cleaning FAQ

Questions owners ask before the first dive.

Straight answers about cadence, paint, and what you actually get.

How often should I have my hull cleaned in Pinellas County?
In the warm Gulf waters around Pinellas, most boats do best with a cleaning every 3 to 4 weeks. In the hottest months, fast-growing biofouling can call for service every 2 to 3 weeks. We set a cadence based on your boat, your bottom paint, and where you keep her — not a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Do you clean the hull in the water, or does the boat have to come out?
All hull cleaning is done in the water, right at your slip or dock. No haul-out, no travel lift, no yard bill. Your boat stays where it is and stays usable.
Will cleaning the hull damage my bottom paint?
No — done correctly, it protects it. We remove growth with the least aggressive method that works, so the antifouling is preserved rather than scrubbed away. The real threat to bottom paint is waiting too long: hard growth that has set in requires far more aggressive removal than a regular, gentle cadence ever does.
How long does a cleaning take?
Most cleanings take from one to a few hours, depending on the size of the boat and how much growth has built up since the last service. A boat on a steady cadence cleans quickly; a hull that's gone a long time between cleanings takes longer.
What's included — just the hull?
More than the hull. Every cleaning covers the full wetted surface plus the running gear — propellers, shafts, struts, rudders, and trim tabs — along with clearing thru-hulls and intakes and inspecting your zinc anodes. You also receive before-and-after media and a short condition report.
Will I get proof of the work?
Always. Every dive ends with before-and-after photos or video plus a short, plain-language condition note on your hull, running gear, and anodes — sent straight to you. You never have to take anyone's word for what happened below the waterline.
